This is a good looking, healthy little girl. You can see her name "Mai" written on the front of her shirt. She looks like a boy with the short hair and the shirt she is wearing. Originally we requested a boy, since most people request girls and the wait time for boys was considerably shorter. But with the problems in the Vietnam program, a few months ago we changed our preference to "either". So I was very excited and totally surprised when they called me on Valentine's Day at work and said "It's a girl!"
This afternoon we met with our adoption agency to discuss travel details and all the paperwork that has to be filled out. The program director gave me permission to post the photos on the blog, but I would just request that you don't redistribute or repost these photos. Tomorrow night we have paperwork to notarize and send back. On one of those forms, they asked us to give her a name. So soon?! I thought we'd have 4-6 months to decide. Her Vietnamese name Mai Thi is roughly pronouced "mighty", which I think is awesome, but I have Dan to contend with and my Vietnamese friends begging me to give her an American name. So we have come up with something...but I'm too chicken to post it yet. Hopefully we will get more photos soon and I will post her new name.

She's so lovely! I'm still on cloud nine with your good news......keep the updates comin! (And if you need someone to take care of Bruno or Peepers while youre away you know who to call!)
Congrats again!
Do you need to give her an American name? Could you call her Mai (pronounced May)? If need be an American middle name. She will have your last name so that should be fine.
I spoke with the Vietnamese women I work with.
Mai - is a specific flower I was told pronounced My
Thi - a middle name referring to a girl (a boy would have Van)
The Mai flower is traditional flower for the New Years, so they are currently in bloom in Viet Nam (google image search Mai flower (second page). (genus = Ochna)
I vote for keeping the name Mai and pronouncing it May.
From http://www.behindthename.com
Mai: apricot blossom
Thi: poem (common middle name)
A name that means "Mighty" is Mathilda (and all of various spellings)
Blossom Schmidt?
Matilda Schmidt? Very German.
April Schmidt?
Matilda Mai Schmidt?
Of course, you could go with Karina (from the latin for Dearly loved) or Amia (from the French for beloved).
Shall we just call her cutie-pie?
Well, isn't she beautiful? Oh, you're going to have so much fun! As for names, I'm sure it will be perfect.
She is so beautiful and I am SO proud to call her my niece! I can't wait to meet her and give her a gigantic hug and kiss...all in due time of course...wouldn't want to scare her off. : )
