It is almost the peak of strawberry picking season. We've only had strawberry shortcake for dinner one night so far but tonight will make two. Dan's family never ate fun things like strawberry shortcake for dinner, so he was a little surprised when I told him about that and other things that pass as dinner at the Landis house including bird's nest pudding (sour cherry cake), apple dumplings, and apple pie. Hooray for eating dessert as dinner!
Last weekend we got to see our nephews Grant and Cayden. Grant is almost three years old now and Cayden just turned one in March. They are really fast, so you have to be quick with the camera. Here is one of Cayden running away from Aunt Barb.
On one of our Vietnam adoption message boards, someone asked about nice hotels in Hanoi for their upcoming trip. They said their top priorities are a hotel with a pool, good breakfast buffet, and AC. Dan thought it must have been me that posted the message; those would be my top priorities too. She got a number of helpful responses, but one negative Nelly said to make sure you pick a good hotel because they spent the whole trip in the hotel room. Sightseeing was "sensory overload" for their child. I wonder if it was more like sensory overload for the parents being in a foriegn country? Even NYC is sensory overload for Midwestern yokels. This gave me a nightmare where Mai was one of those children that was allergic to light. We had to stay in the hotel room with the shades drawn the whole trip!

Hey now... not all of us from the Midwest are "yokels." Dave and I grew up 30-45 mins. outside Chicago in one of the wealthiest and nicest suburbs in the whole country, Naperville. There are a lot of people who grew up on the East or West coasts who are much more yokels than where I grew up in the Midwest. Sorry... just have to stand up for my roots! =)
Right, I would not attach the world yokel to everyone from the Midwest...but you know the type ;-)
