Hallmark adoption series

Hallmark has an adoption series called "Adoption: real families, real stories". There is an episode on Vietnam. I just watched it and have a few comments. When they say 6 months after we started the adoption process, we got the package with photos, they mean 6 months after submitting their dossier to Vietnam. Also, their adoption was completed before the program closed (note the 2001 birth date), so things have changed a little since the program reopened in Sept 2005. This couple went through lengthy fertility treatments. The episode seemed to portray adoption as a second best choice, although at the end, the couple admits if they had known adoption would bring so much joy, they would not have spent so long trying to get pregnant. Dan and I had always discussed adoption, even before I knew I have this genetic disease. When my doctors advised against pregnancy, adoption was an easy choice. I will never miss getting fat, going through labor, having stretch marks, or being a milk machine for the first 6 months of my child's life. And I will never let my child think they were our second best choice for having a family.
