Happy Thanksgiving!

Last night we received a mystery DHL package that must be hand delivered. Dan suggested it could be something from our agency and went to their local store to pick it up. I remembered that stupid scene in the Hallmark adoption episode where they get their baby photos via FedEx without warning. Even though I knew it doesn't happen like this, I got my hopes up that our social worker had tried to call, but my phone just wasn't showing the voicemail or something. Turns out it was a Christmas gift for my mom from Dell. I really hoped we would have our referral by Thanksgiving and could take the photos with us to Thanksgiving dinner to show off. Instead, we'll get more questions "when are you getting the baby? what's going on?" I also ordered our holiday photo cards yesterday. Last year I had high hopes that this year's card would include a baby photo [sigh...] but its just another boring photo of me and Dan.

Since this is National Adoption Awareness month and this is a day to be thankful, here's a prayer for adoption excerpted from a November adoption newsletter:

"...In the same spirit as Thanksgiving, when you reflect on how adoption has touched your own life this November, also remember those that share the common thread with you. Remember the children in the foster care system who have been or are waiting to be adopted. Remember the children in orphanages overseas who are awaiting their forever family and also those whose special needs might be an obstacle for their adoption. Remember the adoptive families who are in process and waiting for the moments of their adoption journey to be created. Remember the social workers that gave up time with their family to spend time at the hospital with excited adoptive parents or overwhelmed birthparents. Remember the pregnant woman whose loving choice helped to build a family through adoption."

And finally here is a photo of a little puppy that will soon be adopted by our friends Eric and Shira. I can't wait for him to come over and play with Bruno:
