Today our agency sent us some new pics of Mai and her punk band compadres along with her vitals. Mai weighs 10 kg and is 79 cm tall. Compared to an American kid her age, she's only 7% shorter but 24% leaner. That is evident in all the photos and reminds us of the reality of life in the orphanage where food is a scarce commodity. In the winter pictures, the kids had long sleeves and long pants on so you couldn't really judge their stature. But with the heat of the summer, they are wearing tank tops and shorts, exposing their rather thin limbs. Hang (our contact in Vietnam) tells us “Thuy, Huy, Mai are doing fine, just little nose running or coughing if they get sick as of summer weather.” The photos also revealed they are still sleeping in cribs (with what looks like burlap sheets!), are out of diapers, and have the same care-taker as they did in the winter. We are really grateful for the stability and loving care this woman has brought into Mai's life. It also appears that Jada and Ryan have a thing for each other, so we'll see what blossoms there!

Is there any way for people to make donations to the shelter, either finances, food, or childrens clothes?
She's gorgeous, can't wait to meet her in person. :)
She still looks like a happy baby, though! Just imagine how thrilled she will be to live in the posh US of A with the 2 of you loving her as much as you both will! She will really thrive then... and not just in her body weight!!! =)
Out of diapers? As in potty trained? Wowza. You go, girl!
Diapers cost the orphanage time and money, so they start potty training VERY young compared to US standards. They also learn certain self-care tasks early b/c they have to do more things for themselves like eating and dressing.
