We passed!

As communist music is blaring from the square outside, the interview is over and we're comin' to America! Really the interview was more like getting your car registration at the DMV. I went up to a window and paid our $400 as Dan held Mai in the waiting area. Then another person at a different window called my name. We came up and swore everything in the visa application was true to our knowledge, the guy gave us a receipt, and said you can pick her visa up at 4PM today. Yay! Then we drove over to POLISA who is responsible for all the orphans in Vietnam. They processed all of Mai's paperwork. The nice people served us raw guava and some kind of turnip with a glass of water. Since we couldn't take any pictures at the US Embassy, we got a group photo at POLISA. Tonight we will go out to Alfresco's (the American restaurant) to celebrate as a group.(Dan is a giant among men. You could stack two Vietnamese up against him)

Dan, no more Adrian's pizza for you -- from now on, it is turnip and water (just to make you feel at home). And I hear that commie music is just hoppin' with excitement.
I am glad to hear you guys are almost home.

There is loud commie music that randomly starts playing throughout the day, bugles sound at 5:30AM to "wake up the city", there are soldiers on almost every street corner, and the president's motorcade has driven past at least 4 times since we've been here. Its quite an experience. Also, today we drove past a huge statue of Lenin.

I'm holding a piece of the turnip in my hand.

Congratulations on both the VISA and being able to hold Gianna without tears!! She'll come around and learn to trust you. Just keep loving on her and biting her ear! :)

Wait wait... *Who* feels at home with turnips and water, Alex?

Yeah and dont let it get you down Barb. Gia has had like 6 mothers and 0 fathers, right? Makes sense that she would cling quickest to the one that fills the void. But kids change fast. In a week shell be so attached to you that she will enter that phase where she thinks less of you as a separate entity and more as an extension of herself, existing only to fulfill her every whim ;)

do you know that when russian kids grow up (at least when I was a kid), Lenin was referred to as "grandpa Lenin"? Those kindly crinkles in the corners of his eyes when he smiles and all that crap.
Cant wait to have you back in the US of A.
